Strategic Positional Advantages of Curaçao

Curaçao’s strategic location as a deepwater port in the Caribbean allows for receiving large trans-ocean tankers, for refuelling and distribution to and from Latin America, Asia and Europe.

It is ideally located outside the Hurricane weather belt, whilst having proximity to the Panama Canal, which acts as an ideal crossing point for international trading routes.

Our facilities

The Emmastad and Bullenbaai terminals on the island of Curaçao are part of the facilities owned by 2BAYS Curaçao and operated by Oryx Midstream.

These combined facilities provide essential support for both regional and international supply chains, enhancing operational efficiency and flexibility in petroleum logistics.

Emmastad

The Emmastad terminal has a complex refinery with a crude distillation capacity of 320,000 barrel per day. Together with Bullenbaai terminal, they offer a storage capacity exceeding 30 million barrels.

Bullenbaai

Bullenbaai is also a deep-water port accessible to large trans‐oceanic oil and gas tankers, including VLCC’s and ULCC’s. It is interconnected with Emmastad by two pipelines that extend for 6 miles.

Strategic and tactical benefits

Deep‐water Port

Unlike most coastal refining facilities in the region, the Terminals are able to receive large trans‐oceanic tankers for refuelling and distribution purposes.

Trade Routes

The Caribbean forms an ideal crossing point in the international trade flows, with close proximity to the recently expanded Panama Canal.

Outside Hurricane Belt

The positioning of Curaçao outside the hurricane belt provides a major advantage compared to other Caribbean oil terminal facilities.
